MOTUTAPU !

Motutapu Island - its full name, rarely used, is Te Motutapu a Taikehu, "The sacred island of Taikehu".
It is a recreation reserve. We went out in the boat today to visit it, because Sophia has been there twice for tree planting days.

It's close to Rangitoto, so when it erupted it was burned and covered in ash - it is still mostly meadow and grassland, but there is a huge reforestation effort underway.
We did the walkway across the island, it was hot and peaceful. Then picnicked on strawberries before swimming back to the boat. Greg lost his hat on the way back!
