WHANGAPAROA PENINSULA !
Whangaparoa Peninsula
Start of the walk to the waterfall
A gorgeous day today so we decided to go tramping in Shakespear park
(no, I didn't miss the 'e' off by mistake!)
Green rolling hills and sunshine on the outside..
Ducks and pukekhos in the lake
Beautiful lakes and marshes full of blue and red pukekhoes and squabbling ducks. There is a boardwalk that let's you get right up to them and even peep into their nests.
The path into the woods...
As you venture into the bush it all becomes rather green and mysterious. Hardly any birds, although we did see keruru and heard tui, it was relatively quiet. it's more or less the start of autumn here and the quiet was evidence that migrations have started.
Uprooted pohutakawa tree on the walk
The storms from last year uprooted huge trees and we had to clamber around them to continue with the walk. health and safety? Well, it's a big tree, you can't miss it!
The path goes under the trees
Rather than cut the trees the path becomes part of the wood and the trees grow on it and through it. No sanitized tourist paths here!
Lovely walk. Back to the car and headed for Orewa, the beach, ice-creams and coffee!
Aerial view of the peninsula
