L&P is part of what we call "kiwiana".
What is Kiwiana? – It could be described as all the weird and wonderful quirky things from years gone by that contribute to New Zealand's sense of nationhood—the kiwi identity.
L&P is loved by Kiwis the world over – the catch phrase “World Famous in New Zealand” has now become their slogan, on all billboards & in all adverts - and those adverts have certainly changed from the first ones we saw!
The giant L&P bottle in Paeroa is probably Kiwiana at its best! You could also add "stubbies" (those little shorts he's wearing - to the list!)
